  • See You Next Tuesday

    Steve McCormack

    language (, Oct. 5, 2015)
A black and blue tragicomic tale of one boy’s suburban teenage angst, set against a violent yet exciting backdrop of pubs, punk rock, prison, police and perverts during the 1970’s and 80’s. Culminating in a wonderful performance on 'Stars in their Eyes' which at the time was possibly one of the nations most favourite television talent shows.A great book from a first time author; 'See You Next Tuesday' is superbly entertaining. A candid coming of age story spanning a very revealing and formative twenty years, filled with irony, comedic moments, anecdotes and reflections. Warm, compelling and at times quite chilling, but with some incredibly unbelievable adventures on the way. From innocence to experience; the honest tale of an angelic upstart, a petty thief, almost institutionalised, sent to youth prison and a cruel and deadly psychiatric borstal, having to deal with intimidation and ultra violent inmates at every turn. From adolescence to adulthood; part of the teenage driven, musical revolution that was Punk Rock, he soon started rebelling against the whole world and everybody in it. Living in a hostile town and growing up amidst inflamed violence between warring gangs of teddy boys, rockers, skinheads, mods and soul boys, when he reluctantly became involved in an incident with near fatal consequences, which left him desperately fighting for his life. Finally, making the decision to ‘go straight’ only to discover he was in possession of an amazing singing voice, but now left with feelings of inadequacy due to his incarceration. Determined to conquer those fears and after winning acclaim from his peers with a powerful performance on 'Stars in their Eyes', now possessing a new self belief Steve stepped into the limelight. If this book were a screenplay for a social realism drama it should be firmly wedged between two great classics, namely SCUM and THIS IS ENGLAND for its grittiness and brutality, but in fact SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY is a retrospective on the authors own personal rites of passage, filled with a gamut of human emotion and conjuring up all the visual imagery needed for a provocative big screen adaptation. A must read for all connoisseurs of subculture......
